Practice Wi-Fi - South Norfolk CCG

Health and social care

“I was aware of the work Egton had completed in other regions and they have a good reputation nationwide. This gave me the confidence in Egton’s ability to deliver quickly without compromising on quality.”

John Allison, GPIT Support Manager at NEL CSU

South Norfolk CCG successfully applied for funding from the Estates and Technology Transformation Fund (ETTF) to install Wi-Fi for both patients and staff across their 37 member practices. A key part of the funding requirements was for this to be delivered within the first quarter of 2017. The CCG referred to NHS North East London (NEL) CSU, the long-term commissioning support unit for the region, to source the suitable supplier – who in turn approached us.

Working with proven experience

“We needed to deliver a complete Wi-Fi solution to all member practices in South Norfolk within a very tight time period,” mentioned John Allison, GPIT Support Manager at NEL CSU. “I was aware of the work Egton had completed in other regions and they have a good reputation nationwide. This gave me the confidence in Egton’s ability to deliver quickly without compromising on quality.”

The time constraint was a real concern for John, but he felt “a huge weight lifted off his shoulders” when he started working with Caron Perry, our lead project manager for the roll-out. Projects such as this one involve a wide range of stakeholders, and keeping everyone informed and engaged at all times is a key part of delivering on time and on budget. John commented on the how our team “went above and beyond on this project,” and how “nothing was too much trouble” for them – this, combined with effective management of resources and equipment, kept the project on track.

Reliable connectivity and flexible working

South Norfolk CCG’s practices are already beginning to see the benefit of the Wi-Fi solution. As John commented, “many of the sites have little or no mobile phone signal, so the Wi-Fi is a great way for patients to remain connected”. The practices are also beginning to use the connectivity as a way to promote services and health initiatives to patients whilst they wait, and is helping to create a more flexible working environment too, with “doctors taking their laptops and working from different rooms”.

John also commented on “the flexibility of service” and how the project “flowed extremely well”, with each practice being individually contacted to ensure their specific requirements were met.

Highly recommended

The Wi-Fi rollout has been a great success for all involved. With the CCG offering their congratulations on a project well delivered and practices giving nothing but positive feedback, John said that he “would not hesitate in recommending and working with Egton again in the future.”
