Health and social care

Together, we can help patients to move for change

Getting patients to commit and then stick to a healthy and active lifestyle can be difficult. That’s why, throughout May, we’ll be providing you with expert advice and tips on how to get your patients to #Move4Change.

Throughout our almost 20-year history, we’ve seen just how useful digital technology has been in helping the over 5,000 healthcare organisations we’ve worked with to achieve their goals. We’ve also seen how useful this technology can be in spreading the word to patients about how they can keep fit and healthy. But with only 31% of men and 23% of women aged 16 and over meeting both the NHS’s aerobic and strengthening guidelines, there’s still more that can be done.

“It can be so difficult to find time in a packed consultation to deliver health messages… yet there is good evidence for a direct positive impact of exercise on mood, in addition to all the physical health benefits it brings. Even brief interventions can help encourage patients to start engaging in regular activity.”

Dr Sarah Jarvis, clinical director, Patient.info

Since May is the start of National Walking Month, now’s the perfect time for us to work together to tackle this issue. To help you to do this, we’ll be posting blogs with advice straight from the experts, including Stephen Buckley, head of information at Mind, Rebecca, a respiratory nurse in London and Kay, a practice manager in Stockport. With their top tips, we’ll be able to see how the right messages and tools can really help patients to understand what they can do to live a healthy lifestyle.

Taking a leaf out of our own book

We’re not the type to give advice and then not follow it ourselves. So, throughout May, we’ll be taking part in our own fitness challenge. As exercise has also proven to be beneficial to mental health, we’ll be raising money for our charity partner, Mind, too.

We’ll be letting you know all about our progress, so keep an eye out for updates on this page.
